Why You Will Love This Sauce

  • Enhances Flavor: Dill sauce adds a burst of freshness and flavor to salmon. Its slightly tangy profile complements the richness of the fish without overpowering its natural taste.
  • Balances Richness: Salmon’s oily and rich texture is beautifully balanced by the lightness and brightness of dill sauce. The sauce’s herbal notes cut through the fish’s richness, enhancing the overall dining experience.
  • Versatility: Dill sauce is incredibly versatile and can be customized with various ingredients like sour cream, yogurt, mayonnaise, lemon juice, garlic, or mustard. This versatility allows for different flavor profiles to suit individual tastes.
  • Ease of Preparation: It’s relatively easy to make and requires minimal ingredients, making it a convenient and quick addition to a salmon dish.

What Dill Tastes Like

Dill has a really fresh taste along with a tangy flavor. The aftertaste can be slightly bitter with a hint of sweetness. It pairs well with fresh lemon because it adds acidity and citrus flavor.

Fresh or Dried Dill

Dry herbs usually have a more intense flavor compared to fresh herbs because the drying process concentrates the flavor compounds, so you can use much less. The flavor profile of dried herbs can be very different.

I love to use fresh in this recipe because it has a bright flavor, great to use in dishes that aren’t cooked.

Fresh dill is stored in the fridge and has a much shorter shelf life compared to dried dill. The decision of which one to use is a matter of preference and what works best for your situation.

How to Substitute Mayo

You can omit the mayo if you want and use an equal part sour cream or plain Greek yogurt.

Why It Pairs Well With Salmon

The sauce pairs wonderfully with fish because the light and fresh flavor complements the rich taste of the seafood. The herbal flavor of the dill helps to balance out the oily taste of the fish.

How Long it Will Last in the Fridge/How to Store

The sauce will last tightly covered and sealed for 3-4 days in the fridge.

This sauce was delicious! I made some mini ricotta pancakes with smoked salmon for a dinner party last week and I made this sauce to drizzle on top. Everyone loved it. I will keep this recipe on hand for sure.
